Excepting is how we point to the one person or thing a statement is not true about. If you say “The café is open every day, excepting Mondays,” Monday is the only day that sentence fails. It does the same job as except, though actually excepting feels more careful, a little old-fashioned, and more at home in writing, notices, and legal language than in ordinary chat — most people just say except. You can also flip it: “not excepting” means you are folding that person in too. “Everyone was tired, not excepting the teacher” means the teacher was tired as well. It can sit before a noun (“excepting children”) or before a whole little phrase (“excepting when it rains”).
組成except（除了）+ -ing。這裡的 -ing 不是「正在做」的進行式，而是把 except 收成介系詞用法。
