Eviction is the legal act, or the legal process, of making someone leave the home they are living in. If a landlord wins in court, the court can order an eviction; then the tenant must move out. People say face eviction, an eviction notice, after the eviction. It names the event and the paperwork, not the feeling — though of course the feeling is often fear and shame. Though actually, the word is a noun, even when a short definition sounds like a verb (to tell someone they must leave). You cannot eviction someone; you evict them, and that is an eviction. Outside housing, people rarely use it.
