To evade means to avoid or escape from something or someone, usually by being clever, tricky, or a bit sneaky about it — not just walking away, but actively dodging. You can evade a question (avoid answering it directly), evade capture (escape from someone chasing you), or evade taxes (illegally avoid paying money you owe the government). Because of that last common use, 'evade' often carries a slightly dishonest or guilty feeling, unlike a neutral word like 'avoid'.
