Feeling — or causing — that huge, floating happiness. Two ways to use it. About a person or a crowd: 'the fans were euphoric', 'she felt euphoric after the results came out'. About a thing or a stretch of time: 'a euphoric mood', 'a euphoric first year', 'euphoric crowds', where it means full of that feeling or bringing it on. It is stronger than happy, excited or delighted; reach for it when the feeling is close to overwhelming. Like the noun, it usually implies the high will not last, so it very often sits next to a word for the moment it happened — 'euphoric scenes on the night of the win'. It is also the standard word for the effect of certain drugs, which is why 'euphoric' on its own can read as slightly clinical or slightly wary depending on the sentence. There is a rarer noun 'a euphoric' meaning a drug that produces this state, but you will almost never need it, and it is the adjective students should learn.
