1. 1

If you call a person estimable, you mean they deserve respect. People look up to them because of their character or their work, not only because they are famous. It is a polite, slightly old word, more at home in careful writing than in chat among friends. You can also speak of estimable work or estimable qualities, such as honesty. You would not call a snack estimable. Though actually, the same spelling has another, quieter sense: “able to be estimated” — you can put a rough number on it. That sense sits next to estimate, and many never need it. Both senses come from the same old idea of weighing up what something is worth. English later grew esteem (respect) and estimate (a number) as separate words, and estimable can still lean either way. Its cousin usually means “so great you cannot measure it” ( help), which can feel almost opposite to “you can put a number on it.”

    可敬的、值得尊敬的(另一個較少見的意思才是「可估計的」,不是「已估計的」)
