We call someone errant when they have gone off the path they were supposed to stay on. An errant child will not do as their parents ask, and keeps getting into trouble. An errant husband or errant wife has not been faithful — they have gone after someone else. The word is a little old and a little story-book; you still meet it in newspapers and novels more than in everyday talk. It is not a fancy word for a small slip. A wrong answer in a test is just wrong, not errant. You use it when the person has wandered away from duty, rules, or a promise. Though actually, English also keeps an older picture of the same word: a knight errant was a knight who travelled around looking for adventure. That “wandering” idea is the older root. In sport, an errant pass is one that flies off where it was meant to go — not naughty, just off-course.
組成It does not split in modern English. It came from Old French errant, “wandering”. Behind that sit two Latin streams that later mixed: iter, “a journey”, and errare, “to stray / go wrong”. The “badly behaved / unfaithful” sense belongs with the “stray” stream.
