Equitably is how you do something when you are trying to be fair to everyone involved. It is the adverb that belongs with equitable. A boss who shares bonus money equitably does not have to give the same number to each person; they try to match what is fair. You can apply a rule equally (the same way for all) or equitably (in a way that still feels just). The second one leaves a little room for judgment. The word is formal, like equitable; in casual talk people say fairly.
