Ephemera are the small, ordinary things of daily life that were never meant to last: train tickets, flyers, paper menus, , posters, stamps on . They are often cheap, and people throw them away without thinking. Though actually, that throwaway quality is why collectors and museums hunt for old ephemera — a ticket from fifty years ago can tell you how a city felt. The Greek start of the word is “things for a day”, so writers also use it more loosely for anything that lives a very short life, not only paper. In grammar it looks like a plural (and it began as one), but English often treats it as a mass: “old ephemera”, not “three ephemeras”.
