To emote is to show a feeling clearly on the outside, especially when you are acting. An actor emotes when the face, voice, and body make the feeling easy to read — sometimes a bit large, so people may say it with a slight smile, as if the showing is too much. It does not mean you simply have the feeling inside; it means you put it out where others can see it. Though actually, in games and online chat an emote is also a ready-made little action or sticker (a wave, a dance, a cry). That noun grew from the verb. Informal to neutral. Not a word for private tears in an empty room.
