EDI is short for Electronic Data Interchange. It is a way for one company's computer to send business papers — orders, , shipping notes — straight into another company's computer, in a fixed format both sides have already agreed on. People have used it since before the everyday internet; big shops, factories, and shipping firms still use it because it is fast and cuts typing mistakes. You will almost never hear it in ordinary talk. It lives in offices, warehouses, and IT rooms. People in that world just say the three letters, E-D-I. It is not a person's name, and it is not 'editing'.
