Eco- means “about the living world around us,” and a warrior is someone who fights, so the picture is a fighter for nature. People who like this kind of action often wear the word proudly. Though actually, other people use it with a little smile, as if the person is too serious, too angry, or a bit of a show-off. Newspapers like it because it sounds strong and simple. It is a label, not a job title; you would not usually put it on a CV. It is less formal than environmentalist, and it stresses doing something, not just believing something. It can name a famous campaigner or your neighbour who argues about every plastic bag.
