The day moves: it lands on a Sunday somewhere between late March and late April, so people really do ask when Easter is this year. To point clearly at the day itself, most speakers say Easter Sunday. Chocolate eggs, painted eggs and rabbits belong to the celebration around the day, not to the meaning of the word. Taiwan has no holiday for it, so you will meet the word mostly in Western news, films and school lessons.

    The short stretch of days around Easter Sunday, including the days just before and just after it, when many people in Western countries have time off work or school.

    Here the word covers a period, not one day. That is why the preposition changes: you say at Easter for the whole stretch, but on Easter Sunday for the day. The stretch is usually the long weekend from Friday to Monday, and for schools it can be a week or two, called the Easter holidays. People use this sense when they talk about travelling, closing a shop, or booking flights, because those things take more than a single day.
