Earthy describes something that reminds you of soil or nature - an earthy smell after rain, an earthy taste in mushrooms or wine, or earthy colors like brown and dark orange. It can also describe a person or their humor: earthy people are simple, direct, and down-to-earth, sometimes talking about bodily things quite openly, but in a natural, unpretentious way rather than a rude one.
