An earset is a small phone kit you wear so you can talk without holding the phone. One part sits in or on your ear so you can hear; a microphone sits near your mouth so the other person can hear you. Drivers, office workers, and call-line staff use them. It is close to a headset — though actually a headset often has a band over the head and may cover the ear, while an earset is usually the lighter one-ear kind that hooks over the ear or sits in it. Boxes and manuals like the word earset; in everyday talk many people still say headset, earphones, or “my Bluetooth.” It is not a hearing aid: it connects you to a phone, it does not fix hearing.
