An earbud is a tiny speaker you rest in the opening of your ear to listen to music, a call, or a video. People often wear them as a pair, one in each ear, with a wire or with no wire (Bluetooth). Younger speakers now say earbud more than earphone for this small in-ear kind; the big cups that sit over the whole ear are headphones, not earbuds. Though actually, shops mix the words, and some people also call the soft rubber tip an earbud. It is an everyday pocket-noun, not a medical word. Countable: one earbud, a pair of earbuds.
