E-cash is money you use to buy things on the internet that does not exist as coins or notes in your hand, and is not tied to one country’s paper money in the old way. The idea is “cash,” but it lives only as a record on a computer. The word is a little older in feel than today’s talk of wallets and apps; people now often say e-money, digital money, or name the app they tap. A credit card is still drawing on an ordinary bank account in a named currency, so that is not quite what this word was aiming at. Taiwan’s 悠遊卡 is stored-value money you tap on a bus — related in spirit, but that is a local card, not internet cash without a country. Use e-cash when the point is internet money that is not physical, and not obviously NTD or USD in your pocket.
e-cash 指在網路上買東西用的錢，它不以硬幣或紙鈔的形式存在，也不像以前那樣直接綁在某國的紙幣上。概念上是「現金」，但實際上只以電腦裡的紀錄存在。這個字聽起來比現在的說法舊一點，今天的人多說電子錢、數位錢，或直接講是哪一個 app。
信用卡還是從一個有幣別的銀行帳戶扣款，不太是這個字想指的東西。台灣的悠遊卡是可以在公車上刷的儲值卡，精神上有點接近，但那是一張本地卡。所以重點是網路上不實體的錢，才用 e-cash。
