  1. 1v/dʌɡ/挖（dig 的過去式／過去分詞）

    The past tense and past participle of dig: used when someone made a hole in the ground or moved earth, took something out of the ground, or pushed a hand deep into something to look for what was inside.

    「dug」是 dig 的過去式，也是過去分詞——dig-dug-dug，後面兩個長得一模一樣，所以 We dug a hole、We have dug a hole、The hole was dug 用的都是同一個 dug。dig 可以想成「把手或工具伸進去，再把裡面的東西弄出來」：伸進泥土裡就是挖洞（dug a hole）、把紅蘿蔔挖起來（dug up the carrots）；如果伸進包包裡東翻西找，英文還是用同一個字（dug around in her bag），只是沒有泥土而已。它是不規則動詞，沒有 digged 這個寫法。

Dug is not a word with its own meaning — it is dig, already finished. So the picture to hold is dig's picture, set in the past: a hand or a going down into something and moving what was there aside, to make a hole, to bring something up, or to feel around for what is buried. 'They dug a hole', 'she dug in her bag for the keys' — same movement, one already done.

dug 沒有自己的意思，它就是 dig 的「已經做完」版本。所以要記的畫面還是 dig 的畫面：一把鏟子或一隻手往下伸進去，把原本擋在那裡的東西撥開——可能是為了挖出一個洞，可能是為了把埋著的東西弄出來，也可能只是伸進包包裡摸找鑰匙。可以想成「往下、撥開、找出來」這一個動作，只是時間點已經過去了。
