A drugstore is an American shop where you can buy medicines, and also many everyday things: soap, make-up, snacks, magazines. It is not only a place for sick people. In the United States you might walk in for a cold tablet or for toothpaste. The word is strongly American. In Britain people say chemist’s or pharmacy, and those shops are usually more about medicine. Though actually, the old picture of a drugstore — a long counter, a person mixing powders, maybe even ice cream — is not how most of them look now. They are often big chain shops.
