    A druggist is someone trained to prepare medicines, who works in a shop that sells them. This is mainly American English, and it sounds a little old now. In a modern American town people more often say ; in Britain people say chemist. The druggist was the person behind the counter who mixed and sold the medicine, not the doctor who tells you what is wrong. Though actually, in older American towns the druggist often knew everyone, and the shop sold many small things besides medicine.
