- 1
Dressmaking is the work or skill of making clothes, especially women’s clothes sewn to fit — measuring, cutting, pinning, . It is the craft, not the person (the person is a dressmaker). People learn it at home, at school, or as a trade; it can mean a hobby or a job. Though actually, it is a little old-fashioned as a label: many people now just say or making clothes. It is not the same as fashion design on paper, and not the same as factory mass production, even if some of the same skills sit inside a factory. Neutral, slightly traditional.
