From Old French dozaine 'a group of twelve', from Latin duodecim 'twelve'.

源自古法文 dozaine「一組十二個」，來自拉丁文 duodecim「十二」。

One way to picture dozen: the egg box — twelve, counted in one go. Because twelve is already a handful, English also uses the word loosely when the number is simply large and nobody is counting.

可以想成 dozen 是那盒雞蛋：十二個，一次數完。也因為十二已經算是一小堆了，英文乾脆把這個字拿來當「很多」用，這時候根本沒有人在數。
