A docudrama is a film, often made for television, that takes real events and tells them as a story. Actors play the real people. Writers may invent talk nobody wrote down, and they may squeeze years into two hours. So it is not a documentary, which tries to show real footage and real voices, and it is not a wholly made-up drama either. People reach for docudramas when a true case is already famous — a crime, a disaster, a political fight — and they want the feeling of a plot. Though actually, 'based on a true story' on the screen can still move facts around, tidy the timeline, and give someone a speech they never made. Watch it as a story first; check the history if you need the facts. The word is media talk, not street talk.
