In a division sum, the divisor is the number you divide by. In 20 ÷ 4 = 5, four is the divisor, twenty is the dividend, and five is the quotient. This is almost only a maths-classroom word; you would not call your boss a divisor. If four goes into twenty exactly, we also say four is a divisor (or factor) of twenty. The word just names that role in the sum — the cutter, not the pile being cut.
