組成Used since the early 1800s among the Pennsylvania Dutch (Penslfawnisch Deitsch). It is possibly a borrowing from dialectal German dutzig, also dützig, ditzig (“numb, dazed, dizzy, as after a punch; dull, stupid”), from dialectal dutzen (“to butt, hit, punch”). Compare German verdutzt (“dumbfounded”) and regional Dötsche (“bump, dent, bruise”). Unlikely to be just an alteration of dizzy, even though the meanings sit near each other.
