Informal, mostly American. A ditz is a person who seems silly or — they forget the keys, lose the thread of a story, and do not look as if they are thinking hard. Among friends it can be teasing; said about someone you barely know, it can sting, so it is not a kind label. Though actually, people also use it for a moment of being (“Don’t be a ditz”) rather than a whole personality. It is a noun. The matching adjective is ditzy. You will not find it in careful school or office writing.
