A ditransitive verb is a verb that takes two objects: an indirect object (usually the person who receives) and a direct object (the thing given, shown, or told). Give in Give me the book is the classroom example: me is the indirect object, the book is the direct object. Other common ones are send, show, tell, offer, and buy in buy her a gift. You can often say the same idea another way with to or for: give the book to me. This is a grammar-class word, not a word you need in the street; ordinary English just says the verb takes two objects. Though actually, not every verb that can be followed by to is ditransitive in this tight sense — explain to someone is a different pattern. Di- here means two.
