1. 1

Distinctiveness is the noun: the fact or quality of being distinctive — of having a special character that is easy to recognise. The distinctiveness of her handwriting. The distinctiveness of the island’s food. You meet it in essays, reviews, and design talk more than at the dinner table. It is a heavy-looking word, but the idea is simple: what makes this one not like the others, in a way you can point to. In easy speech, “what makes it special” or “how easy it is to recognise” often does the same job, and nobody will mind.
