A disparity is a difference between two or more things, and it usually carries a little extra feeling: the difference is uneven, and people may find it unfair. Income disparity, a disparity in school chances, a disparity between the promise and the result. It is a formal word, common in news and essays. In easy talk you would say gap, or that things are not even. Though actually, writers reach for disparity when they want you to notice that the gap matters, not only that two numbers are not the same. You can have a disparity without anyone meaning to be cruel; the can sit in the system.
