Disintegration is what happens when something breaks completely into small pieces, or falls apart entirely so it no longer works as one whole thing. It can be very literal - an old rocket burning up and breaking apart as it falls through the sky - or it can describe something like a friendship, a marriage, or even a country slowly falling apart over time.
