If you are disenchanted, you used to believe someone or something was good — even wonderful — and now you do not. The shine has gone. People say they are disenchanted with a leader, a job, a party, a city, or a whole idea they once loved. The grammar almost always wants with (sometimes by): disenchanted with . Though actually, the older picture behind the word is magic: to enchant is to put a spell on someone; disenchanted is when that spell, or the feeling like it, has broken. In a fairy story that can be literal. In ordinary life it is a waking-up feeling. It sits close to disappointed, but disappointment can be about one event; disenchanted is more like the whole belief has cooled. You will hear it in news and adult conversation; it is not childish slang.
組成dis- (undo / reverse) + enchanted (under a spell, or delighted as if by magic).
