In this sense, disciplinary is about rules, and about what happens when someone breaks them. Disciplinary action, a disciplinary meeting, a disciplinary committee: official steps after a person has not obeyed at school or at work — a warning, a suspension, being or expelled. It is workplace and school English, a little cold on purpose. Though actually, the same spelling is also used in universities for ‘about a field of study,’ but that is not this meaning. Here it is the rules-and-punishment one. Everyday talk is simpler: in trouble, punished, a warning.
