To disbar a lawyer is to take away the right to work as a lawyer. After that, the person may still know the law, but they cannot represent people in court or call themselves a lawyer. It is a punishment from the profession itself, usually after serious . The bar here is not a place that sells drinks. In legal English, the bar is the body of lawyers — from the wooden bar in a courtroom that once separated the lawyers from everyone else. The word is formal and almost only used about lawyers.
