You smile disarmingly, speak disarmingly, or are disarmingly honest: the adverb says how someone does a thing so that you feel less angry and more friendly. The meaning matches disarming, but it hangs on the action or the quality. “She was disarmingly frank” means her frankness lowered your guard. Writers like it because it can praise and warn at once: you are being won over, and you can hear it happening. Though actually, it is still a kind word in most mouths; people rarely use it to mean “ tricky,” even if a clever speaker could.
