Dijon is a city in east-central France, in Burgundy. English speakers know it mainly because of the mustard made there: smooth, pale, rather sharp mustard sold in a little jar. Though actually, the city is much older than that fame; it was an important town long before the mustard became a supermarket word. In everyday English, if someone says Dijon they often mean the mustard, not the place. As a city name it takes a capital D. The usual English attempt at the French sound is closer to “dee-ZHON” than “DYE-jon.”
