The digerati are people who understand computers and the internet well, and who move in that world with confidence — the digital in-crowd. Newspapers and magazines use the word, often with a slightly fashionable or teasing tone, the way they talk about celebrities. It is a journalist’s word, not a computer-science word. You would not put it in a lab report. The word is already plural, like the literati: we say the digerati, not digeratis. One person is “one of the digerati.” Though actually, it does not simply mean “anyone who can use a phone.” It points at the visible, quoted, somewhat elite group — the people papers ring when they want a tech opinion.
