Devotional describes things that belong to religious worship or quiet prayer: a devotional song, a devotional book, a devotional candle used in church. It is about the service and the practice, not about shouting that someone is “very religious.” Though actually the same word is also a noun: a short reading or prayer for the day, or a little book of those readings. Someone may “read a devotional” every morning. The adjective is a little formal; the noun is common in church life. Next to devout (which pictures a sincerely religious person), devotional more often pictures the tools and texts used in worship.
