Dermatology is the part of medicine that studies the skin and treats its diseases. It also covers hair and nails. This is the subject; the person who practises it is a dermatologist. You will meet the word in textbooks and clinic names, not at the dinner table. You study dermatology; you visit a dermatologist. Though actually, a lot of magazine writing that says dermatology is only beauty advice. The real field is about finding what is wrong with skin and treating it, not only about looking young.
