Dermabrasion is a kind of skin operation. A doctor uses a special tool to rub away the top layers of skin, a little like sanding wood, though of course it is done with medical care. The skin underneath can then grow back smoother and healthier. People have this done to old scars from an accident or from earlier surgery, and sometimes to help skin that is very uneven. You will meet the word at a clinic or in a health article, not in daily chat. It is much stronger than a face scrub from a shop. A lighter cousin, microdermabrasion, is what many beauty clinics sell. Though actually, it cannot rebuild a very deep scar the way a bigger operation can, and a doctor has to decide whether your skin is strong enough.
