To depose a leader is to take that person out of power. Kings, queens, presidents, and other rulers get deposed. The army, the parliament, the people, or a rival may do it. The leader is typically still alive — this is not the same as killing them — but they no longer hold the seat. The word is fairly formal. History books and news use it. You would not usually say you deposed the class president unless you were being grand on purpose. People also stretch it a little for company bosses: the board deposed the CEO. Though actually, English has another depose in court: to depose someone can mean to take their sworn statement. That legal sense got tangled, long ago, with deposit and deposition. For this word as you meet it in history class, think pull the ruler down, not put money in the bank.
組成From Old French deposer: de- (down) + poser (to put, place). Recorded in English since about 1300. Legal deposition belongs with deposit, but that word and depose became thoroughly confused.
