To depoliticize something is to take political influence or party control out of it, or to try to handle it as if votes, factions, and power games should not decide it. Governments talk of depoliticizing the civil service, the police, the courts, or a technical committee. Teachers and parents may want to depoliticize a school argument so the children can just learn. It is more at home in news and meetings than in casual talk. Though actually, people often disagree about whether depoliticizing is possible, or even honest: saying “let’s keep politics out of this” can itself be a political claim about who gets to set the rules. US spelling is depoliticize; British spelling is often depoliticise.
