In money talk, to denominate something is to set its official value in one kind of currency. You will almost always meet this word in the passive: a loan, a contract, or a bond “is denominated in” dollars, euros, yen, and so on. That does not mean the money has already been paid in that currency. It means the unit on the paper — the system you count in — is that currency. A Taiwan company might still pay from a local account, but if the deal is denominated in US dollars, the official number is a dollar number. Though actually, the older and wider meaning is simply “to name.” The money use grew from that: you name the unit the value is counted in. almost never need the active voice “we denominate.” Follow the real pattern: is denominated in + a currency.
