Demos has a few different everyday meanings. Most simply, it's the plural of 'demo' — so 'the band's demos' means the band's several demo recordings, or 'software demos' means several trial versions of a program. In British English, 'demos' can also mean protest marches — short for 'demonstrations' ('there were demos outside parliament'). And in more academic or political writing, 'the demos' (from Greek) refers to the ordinary people or citizens of a country — this is the root of the word 'democracy', which literally means 'rule by the demos'.
