A demister is the part of a car that removes mist from the windows by using heat — usually warm air blown onto the glass, or a heated line on the rear window. In Britain, drivers say put the demister on. In American English the same thing is more often called a defroster or a defogger. It is a noun: the thing that does the job. is the verb: the action. Though actually, in factories a demister can also mean a small mesh that catches droplets in ; that is the same idea, but not the sense in a learner's dictionary. For this entry, think of the car.
