Dehumanizing describes treatment, language, or conditions that strip people of their human qualities — or that make them feel they have been stripped. A dehumanizing rule, a dehumanizing joke about a whole group, a dehumanizing workplace: the word tells you the effect on dignity, not just that something is hard.
Dehumanizing用來描述 describes treatment, language, or conditions那些剝奪人的人性特質——or that make them feel they have been stripped或讓人覺得自己被剝奪人性——的待遇、語言、或環境。A dehumanizing rule一條dehumanizing的規定、a dehumanizing joke about a whole group一個針對整個群體的dehumanizing笑話、a dehumanizing workplace一個dehumanizing的職場:the word tells you the effect on dignity這個字講的是對尊嚴造成的影響,not just that something is hard而不只是說某件事很辛苦。
It is the -ing adjective from , so it often sits in front of a noun (a dehumanizing experience) or after is/was (the process was dehumanizing). Same serious tone as the verb.
It is the -ing adjective from dehumanize它是dehumanize這個動詞的-ing形容詞,so it often sits in front of a noun所以常放在名詞前面(a dehumanizing experience像dehumanizing experience)or after is/was或放在is/was後面(the process was dehumanizing像the process was dehumanizing)。Same serious tone as the verb跟動詞一樣,語氣同樣嚴肅。
Though actually, like the verb, it gets stretched: people call a crowded office that hands out ticket numbers dehumanizing even when no one is being treated as an enemy. That looser use is common now, and it still points at being handled as a thing rather than a person.
Though actually不過其實,like the verb跟動詞一樣,it gets stretched這個字也會被延伸使用:people call...dehumanizing有人會把一間發號碼牌、擁擠的辦公室叫做dehumanizing,even when no one is being treated as an enemy即使沒有人被當成敵人對待。That looser use is common now這種比較寬鬆的用法現在很常見,and it still points at being handled as a thing rather than a person而它指的依然是「被當成東西而不是人來對待」。
組成The -ing form of dehumanize, used as an adjective: de- + humanize + -ing.
