1. 1延期;延後(貸款、兵役、期限等正式的延後)

A deferment is the official act of delaying something until a later date. The thing is not cancelled; it is put off. You meet this word a lot in formal, paper-heavy places: a loan deferment (you may pay later), a deferment of military service, a deferment of a hearing or a deadline. The verb behind it is defer meaning “postpone,” as in defer a payment. That is a different defer from “defer to someone” (give way out of respect). In everyday speech, people often just say delay or postpone. Deferment sounds official — a named period of waiting that some authority has allowed. It is close in meaning to deferral; deferment is especially common with loans, study, and military service.

組成From defer + -ment. This defer is “put off until later,” not “yield to someone.”
