    A defector is the person who leaves their own country, party, or group and joins the other side. The word is most at home in news about , war, and spies. A soldier who runs to the enemy is a defector; so is someone who leaves one country for a rival one and cannot easily go back. It is not a warm word. People on the side you left will often call you a traitor; people on the side you joined, or the newspapers, may say defector, which sounds a little more like a news fact. You almost never use it for everyday things like leaving a club. Though actually, the word does not by itself tell you who was right — only that someone crossed over.

組成Borrowed from Latin dēfector, the person who abandons, from dēficiō (to fail or abandon) + -tor (the one who does the act).
