In philosophy and in the criticism of literature, to deconstruct a piece of writing is to read it in a special way: you look for the cracks, the things the text takes for granted, and you show that it does not settle on one clean meaning. The claim is that there is no single explanation sitting inside the work waiting to be found; meaning keeps slipping, and the writing can work against itself. This school of reading is tied to thinkers such as Derrida. Though actually, outside universities people use deconstruct much more loosely. 'Let's deconstruct this song' often just means 'let's take it apart and talk about the pieces.' That everyday use is milder. It does not carry the whole philosophical claim. The sense here is the method, not knocking a building down, and not merely 'explain.'
