    A deathbed is the bed a person is lying in when they are dying, or the bed they die in. We also use it for those last hours, not only the furniture: a deathbed promise, a deathbed confession, a deathbed conversion (changing what you believe at the very end). Those phrases mean “done while dying.” It is a sober word. You would not call an ordinary hospital bed a deathbed unless death was near.
