    DDS is a university degree for dentists, mostly in the United States. After dental school, a person may put these letters after their name, like “Lin Wei, DDS.” They stand for Doctor of Dental Surgery. That is a title on a diploma, not a different job — the everyday job name is still dentist. Though actually, some American dental schools give another set of letters, DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine); the training is almost the same, just a different name on the paper. People say the three letters one by one, D-D-S, never as a single word. You will see it on clinic signs, business cards, and formal letters.
