  1. 1螢光色（原為美國品牌；台灣口語多半說螢光橘、螢光綠那種刺眼亮色。中國大陸寫「荧光」。不是夜光。）

    A very bright orange, green, yellow, or pink — the kind that looks almost as if it is shining, even in ordinary daylight. Think safety vests, highlighters, and loud 1980s clothes. It began as a US brand of fluorescent paint (Day-Glo Color Corp.), built from day + glow: colours meant to “glow” by day, not only in the dark. People now use Day-Glo (and day-glo) as a general adjective for that neon-bright look, even when the paint is not that brand. Careful writers still treat it as a trademark and may say fluorescent or neon instead. Though actually, glow-in-the-dark is a different trick: those pigments you notice at night. Day-Glo is the brightness you see in the sun.
